Over the past few years I have taught a number of courses in digital art and new media, from introductory courses to upper-level special topics. These courses cover a wide range of topics such as multimedia production, programming, interactive aesthetics, and interfacing with physical devices. The challenge I face in these courses is the melding of theory and practice. I try to give my students both technical skills and creative inspiration, while always looking for ways to connect digital art to larger cultural concerns. In every class, I begin with a set of core concepts and techniques for the specific material. I craft each class to the specific needs and desires of the students.
