Realtime Earthquake Map

Digital interactive museum exhibit, 2007-2008

Collaboration with Ben Chang

For the major traveling exhibition Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Diasters, The Field Museum of Natural History wanted an interactive exhibit to put visitors in touch with the data that scientist use to study earthquakes around the world. We developed an interactive map that shows realtime earthquake activity as well as historical patterns. The display uses live data from international seismic sensor networks and a database of earthquakes going back hundreds of years. An interactive 3D view mode shows the depth of earthquakes, making the structure of underground seismic events visible.
